How often does an aerobic septic system need maintenance in Texas?

Under Texas rules (30 TAC 285.7), a maintenance provider must test the system and send a report to the owner and the permitting authority at least once every four months, within 14 days of each visit. Systems with approved electronic monitoring can report every six months. We handle the visits and the reports.

Do I need a maintenance contract for an aerobic system?

Every new aerobic system in Texas needs an initial two-year maintenance contract. After that, owners of a single-family home may maintain the system themselves or sign a new contract, but commercial and multifamily systems must stay under contract. Some counties add stricter rules. We explain what applies to you.

What does the chlorinator do?

Treated water from a spray system is disinfected before it reaches your lawn. TCEQ says to use calcium hypochlorite tablets made for wastewater — never swimming-pool tablets, which disinfect poorly and can create an explosive gas. We check and top up the chlorinator on every visit.

Why is my aerobic septic alarm on?

The alarm usually means a high water level or an air pump failure. Common causes are a failed pump, a stuck float, a tripped breaker or a failed aerator. Reduce water use and call us. Silencing the alarm does not fix the problem underneath it.

Does an aerobic system still need pumping?

Yes. Aerobic systems still collect sludge and need to be pumped periodically. How often depends on use and system size. We measure sludge levels during maintenance visits and tell you when pumping is actually needed.
